A Social Housing Joiner will work on domestic properties that are either occupied, un-occupied or void.

To work as a Social Housing Joiner you will need to be either fully qualified or time served.
Qualifications include:
A minimum of 2 references must be provided and experience in a social housing environment would be preferred.
You will also be required to hold a valid CSCS card. Skilled cards are required on most sites, however you may be permitted on site at the Contractor’s discretion with a General Operatives green card.
The very basic joinery tools that will be required are: 16 to 20 oz hammer, Pin gun, An assortment of sharp wood chisels, Screwdriver set (Phillips and slot), Hand smoothing planer, Small block planer, Wrecking bar, Hacksaw, Pliers, Nail punch, Coping saw and blades, A couple of levels (short and long), 5 meter tape measure, Adjustable spanner up to 15mm, A hard point cross cut saw, Sliding square, Sliding bevel, String line, Utility knife, Full set of HSS drill bits (3mm to 10mm) & Cordless drill/driver.
You may also require more specialist tools depending on the project.
Can I specialise in more than one joinery sector?
Yes. A lot of the time a Joiner can work in more than one environment. You must have experience in the sector in which you want to work.
Do I need a CSCS Card?
Yes. To work as a Site Joiner you will need to hold a valid CSCS card.
Do I have to provide my own tools?
Yes. As a self-employed Joiner you are required to provide all your own tools. Materials will be provided by the hirer.
Do I need experience?
Yes. You will need to be competent and have a high quality of work to be engaged as a Joiner. You must be able to work equally well alone without guidance, or as part of a team. You will also be asked to supply a minimum of two recent construction/joinery related work references.
